Since the dawn of Beijing’s electronic music scene, the city has experienced several flashes of underground electricity sound – from Vogue, to the Velvet, Orange, FM, Cloud 9, Chinadoll, White Rabbit Club – these electronic bass havens have fired endless waves of carefully selected sonic pleasure through the rhythmic core of the capital’s nightlife community over the last decade.

Continuing to write the history of Beijing’s electronic music culture, the next chapter is set and titled – Lantern. Owned and operated by Beijing’s quintessential independent electronic music maker, Acupuncture Records, Lantern quickly became a heaven for all the electronic music lovers and the hottest rendezvous spot in Beijing’s nightlife scene.

In August 2010, Lantern moved to a new location and a bigger, up-gradedversion of Lantern 2.0 was launched. A set of stairs leads you down past posters of coming events into an underground cavern. Here, a long bar spans one end of the room, with a mezzanine offering more seating and views down on to the massive dancefloor. The club can comfortably fit and envelope up to 800 people in its intimate niches, enveloping every cove and corner as if it were a central acoustic target.

As demanding sound professionals we picked NEXO’s most high-end Alpha System. Expect a range of music styles and variations, from techno to house, from d’n’b to dubstep, and chillout lounge grooves. Top-notch visual artists will also be frequently invited over to show their astounding knack of eyeball games, from live visual to installation, from visual packaging to mapping.

Since the reopening, Lantern 2.0 has become the beacon for underground dance music, and promoters across China flocked here to ply their trade. It is the club doyen in Beijing, bursting with positivity and dancing, with enough lunatic energy to power a small airport.

On top of Acupuncture’s continuing focus on electronic music and visual art, the new Lantern will also become a hub for all creative cultures. Crossover projects with art, fashion, film, design, as well as music projects such as Lantern weekly podcast and DJ workshop, will take place one after another. Aiming to attract the capital’s vanguard crowd and propel the metropolis flavor of its nightlife culture, the club’s industrial edge acts as a blank canvas, allowing the audio/visual aspects of Lantern to operate as the clear and bright focal point of the venue.

The capital’s latest hallmark of nightlife is set to push and stretch the boundaries of electronic sound culture development, re-defining all past propaganda and rhetoric, and reviving life into Beijing’s electronic dance scene.

Rekindle the flame, and light the spark on a new era!
